Boston Medical Library’s
Quest for Ayurveda

By  AA News Desk

If S Jay Jayasankar, an orthopedic surgeon, who is attached to Harvard University and who took over as president of Boston Medical Library (BML) three months ago, has his way, the BML might soon have an Ayurvedic section of books.

Jayasankar was recently in Pune to meet with Ayurveda scholars, and to study their collection of various works on Ayurveda.

Despite having the richest collection of medical books and a prestigious 200-year history, BML lacks only on one front – and that is Ayurveda. Jayasankar wants to fill that lacuna.

Pune is home to seven Ayurvedic colleges, out of which Tilak Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya is the oldest in the country.

“Besides there is a sizable population of ayurvedic practitioners, users and scholars. My attempt here was to meet with them and gather a collection from various libraries which will help me exhibit some of the materials in Boston and create awareness about Ayurveda,’ said Jayasankar while speaking to the country’s premier newspaper, Indian Express. .
