Detox with Ayurveda
There is a great deal of emphasis in Ayurveda on elimination of body toxins. This is done through a combination of diet, medicines and a healthy life style. The removal of toxins from human body forms the cornerstone of Ayurvedic systems of medicine as according to the latter presence of toxins disturbs the balance between mind and body.
There are several procedures used in the removal of toxins such as therapeutic vomiting
(vamana), purgation (virechana), therapeutic enema (basti) and nose drops (nasya). In addition to this sweat therapies and warm oil massage is also prescribed under the Ayurvedic system of medicine to eliminate body toxins.
Under therapeutic vomiting, toxins are eliminated from the thoracic cavity and stomach while purgation helps in cleansing the small intestine of toxins. Therapeutic enema eliminates toxins from the colon. For cleansing head and sinuses nose drops are used under Ayurvedic system of medicine.
These procedures alone however, are not enough. They have to be supplemented with a healthy life style, which implies a strictly regulated diet and appropriate physical and mental exercises.
With growing stress in contemporary world, most of the practitioners of medicine advise that one should go through the process of the elimination of toxins from the body at least once in a year. This is because though the human body is known to be endowed with the capacity for self-healing, formation of toxins in the body affects this capacity of the body to rejuvenate itself.
Under Ayurveda both short-terms as well as long-term detoxification programs. The prescription varies from person to person. The kind of therapy suggested for detoxification also depends largely on the environment in which a patient lives as Ayurveda lays a great deal of emphasis on healthy surroundings as it takes into account the impact of environmental toxins..
