Get rid of dry skin naturally

Dry skin is a problem many people suffer from. There are numerous creams and lotions that can be used to treat dry skin. However there are better results if these products are used in conjunction with Ayurvedic medicine.

Ayurveda emphasizes on using natural paths of healing with massage, diet and holistic remedies. People are classified according to a metabolic type or dosha, and treated accordingly. A dosha is characterized with a combination of the earth’s elements like fire, wind, water, etc. it is when these doshas Vata, Pitta and Kapha are out of balance that ill health occurs.

A person suffering from an imbalance in Vata dosha is prone to dry skin. It is best to use herbal remedies or oils to restore balance to specific problems. To balance an imbalance in Vata, take a regular body and scalp massage using sesame or sweet almond oil. If it is a Pitta imbalance, use coconut oil and if it is a Kapha imbalance, try olive oil. All of these oils are found in not only Ayurveda stores, but also in health food and grocery stores. Gently heating the oils leads to an intense moisturizer. Another great moisturizer for dry skin is a mixture of egg yolks and honey. This mixture may be thick and messy, but it proves to be very effective.

Besides these topical remedies, the right food diet has a great impact on controlling dry skin. Avoid sugar and yeast as food containing these ingredients encourages fungus growth, which in turn leads to dandruff. Follow a diet full of B-vitamin, omega 3 fatty acids, whole grains, nuts, seeds, avocados, bananas, flaxseed, spinach and egg yolks.
