Austere asanas …
The yogasanas are not just body postures. Each asana is associated with a pattern of breathing. For example in surya namashakar, when the hand is raised above the head, breath is inhaled and when the hand is brought down to join in a namaskara (salutation) position at the center of the heart, the breath is exhaled. The practitioner is to remain mindful of the inhalation and exhalation pattern while feeling its effect on the body. Thus concentration is build up while performing any yogasana.
The various asanas are based on the scientific principles of yoga. The different asanas are designed to affect the chakras (vital energy points), nerves and muscles of the body. Through the asanas the various blockages are removed and prana circulates more effectively within the body and mind.
Yogasanas help to rejuvenate the vital energies in the body, and raise the consciousness. By practicing yogasanas in a proper way the nerves in the brain are motivated to function more effectively. Since asanas are designed on these scientific principles so adopting particular asanas not only help recharge the brain but also enable the mind to acquire a peaceful state naturally.
Thus yogasanas help in relaxing and de-stressing the mind. They help in enhancing mental alertness, concentration, memory, observation, and awareness. Since yogasanas are designed to bring about positive modification in the body and mind these benefits are bound to be manifested.
